Trappist Imperial Stout (Spencer Brewery)

Style: Imperial Stout 8.7% ABV From: Spencer, MA Brewery’s Note: “A massive, roasted, malt-forward American Trappist take on the Anglo-Russo Imperial Stout tradition.  Luxuriantly frothy foam, waves of coffee, chocolate and caramel sensations, a generous blend of dark fruit flavors.  Intense and robust.” The beer pours out a thick mahogany color, not oozing like girthier examples in the style, but flowing with a definite weight. … Continue reading Trappist Imperial Stout (Spencer Brewery)

Chimay Red Première (Bières de Chimay S.A.)

My feelings for this bottle’s design stand right in line with the other two Chimay bottles.  They are lovely as a collection of three, I like the simplistic heraldry of them, and the coloring as three distinct colors (for this bottle they are: Red, Gold, White) is great.  A solid bottle that I would consider displaying on a shelf, but only if its two brothers … Continue reading Chimay Red Première (Bières de Chimay S.A.)

Chimay White Tripel (Bières de Chimay S.A.)

My overall feelings for the bottle and design are pretty much the same as for the Grande Reserve, and will probably be the same again for the Red.  Nice heraldry–like design and medieval-feel.  Good minimalism.  Love the chalice they gave me, very sexy… Nice simple bottles.  The monks at Chimay do seem to be a little color blind though, since the bottle is clearly Yellow and … Continue reading Chimay White Tripel (Bières de Chimay S.A.)

Chimay Bleue Grande Reserve (Bières de Chimay S.A.)

Bottle: I like the shape of the bottle.  These short fat bottles are becoming a rarity, but everyone that uses them makes good beer.  The script around the neck is also a fancy touch which I appreciate.  Honestly, fancy is the word I would use to describe the bottle.  Its rather minimalist in design with a mediocre “Chimay” crest in the middle, and then “Chimay” … Continue reading Chimay Bleue Grande Reserve (Bières de Chimay S.A.)
